Black Friday was 3 weeks ago.
So why the huge line of camped-out shoppers snaking down the sidewalk…
On a Thursday morning?
In the cold?
In the rain?
For one of the greatest culinary inventions of modern times, of course – the burrito.
And not just any burrito, a free burrito.
And not just a free burrito, but a year’s worth of free burritos.
Such was the promise for the first one hundred lucky patrons of the new burrito shop that opened up a few spaces down from my gym.
Yes, this sparked exactly the type of conversation you’re probably assuming we had.
To be clear, I’m not knocking the place. In fact, they can expect plenty of business from me in the future.
Then I wondered what lesson we might be able to take from this social experiment fueled by cheese, chicken, rice, and beans…
We will do what we think is most resourceful for us.
The allure of FREE BURRITOS is easy to understand. Even while considering the repercussions of all those burritos, the plus-side is still clear.
The question then becomes:
How can we make exercising as appealing as free burritos?
If I knew the answer, the line-around-the-block would be for my gym.
However, there are those who don’t dare miss a workout.
Who show up at 5am.
Who strive for strength and self-improvement over the course of months and years.
These are people who have come to see the value in exercise just as much as those standing in the rain see the value in …. well, you know.
I’ll be the first to admit, that can be a tough process.
There’s a lot of mental baggage and self-talk that can come with joining a gym and sticking to a workout program.
“I don’t know what I’m doing.” “This is going to be painful.” “People are judging me.”
In this way, many quit before they get started and never find the pleasure in the process.
But with the right approach to exercise, you can get the confidence, energy, strength, flexibility, healthy body, and new friends that come with it.
When that’s the case, who’ll be able to keep you out of the gym?
So, here’s my offer:
If you were one of those who got a year’s worth of free burritos….
First of all, I’m jealous.
Second, by conservative calculations, that’s about 40,000 calories…. or 20 days worth of fuel.
What could you do with an extra 3 weeks of energy?
If you’d like to put those calories to use in becoming the strongest version of yourself, I’d be happy to help…
